Miami Battle of the Bands 2004

On Friday night, May 21st 2004, the I/O Lounge in Miami was the scene of the Miami Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Dunkin Donuts and Little Steven's Underground Garage. The show featured a bunch of "Garage" bands competing for $6000 in prizes and a chance to move on to the New York finals. Each band performed 2 songs. Three finalists were chosen and they each performed an additional song. The winners were The Heatseekers from Fort Lauderdale.

A crowd of about a hundred people turned out for the show. Some were dressed in 60s garb. The bands were young and enthusiastic, they joined the crowd and danced and cheered for their fellow bands when they played. Notable acts include the Evidents, Thee Monarchy V, and the veteran Garagers The Psycho Daisies.

A very nice addition to the festivities was a group of 4 Go Go dancers provided by Little Steven's people, Renegade Nation. They were dressed in matching dayglo pink and green outfits and they danced their little hearts out in authentic 60s fashion.

I got a chance to talk to Little Steven's Associate Producer, Denise Lento. She was very warm and friendly as we discussed Garage music and plans for the new Garage channel on Sirius satellite radio. I also met Little Steven's cousin who was directing the filming of the event. She was very sweet and easy to talk to. Everyone from Renegade Nation was upbeat and eager to talk about Garage Rock!
